Preventative Medicine

PREVENTATIVE MEDICINE

We consider it one of our top priorities to inform our pet parents of the best ways to truly love and protect their pets.  As pet lovers, many things come naturally, such as providing nutritional food, a warm cozy bed, favorite treats, and the best toy ever!  However, there are many more things to consider.  This is where Creature Comforts Veterinary Center comes into play.

The obvious preventatives that come to mind are heartworm preventatives, and flea and tick preventatives.  Along with regular heartworm testing for dogs, we recommend a variety of preventative products including Heartgard, NexGard, Bravecto, Trifexis, Revolution, and Sentinel.  For our feline friends, we have Revolution Plus and Bravecto.  As a small business, we can't stock every product in our clinic. However, many more products are available on our online store.  Go to our website at creaturecomfortsvc.com and click on the My Vet Store button.

What about other topics that fall under the umbrella of preventative medicine?

Unless you are that pet owner who is experienced and educated in breeding dogs and cats, it is our recommendation to have all pets altered at a young age.  This will prevent the issues that come along as your pet ages. The most common being mammary tumors in females and testicular and prostate tumors in males.

Bloodwork can serve as preventative medicine. Having a baseline of your pet's health is crucial.  A good age to have a blood work-up done is around 6 years of age.  This is considered middle age for dogs and cats. (When you go to your doctor for your yearly check-up, what is one of the first things they do?  They draw blood to test if you have any issues, even though you are feeling fine).  It is the same for your pet. Baseline bloodwork can also "catch" health issues in early stages.  Bloodwork is just a good idea for the pet you love.

Our recommended vaccine programs are also considered preventative medicine.  Please read more under our "Vaccination Programs" page. We love your pets almost as much as you do.  We want the best for them.  We want them to live long, healthy, loving lives.  With our approach to preventative medicine, we will be persistent in our recommendations to provide the best for your pet.
